Development of a Low-Density and High-Strength Titanium Alloy

Weight reduction is often considered the primary goal in development of structure materials. A new Ti-8Al-1Cr-1V-0.5Fe-0.1Si (wt.%) alloy with a low-density and high-strength was developed this work. The microstructures mechanical properties were investigated hot-rolled solution-aging (STA) treatment conditions. both states consist spherical αp phase, acicular αs small amount β phase. Attributed to such heterogeneous microstructures, exhibits an outstanding tensile strength 1046.1 MPa, total elongation ~8.3%, impressive low density 4.23 g/cm3. After heat treatment, also similar ductility. detailed analysis deformation modes shows that numerous dislocations slippages twinning phase are main reasons for high ductility, provides after treatment. This newly potential material various structural applications.
